The new facility has been a while in the making, but now it is open and had it’s recent ribbon cutting to open the doors. It is full of robots, wireless and almost any kind of modern technology you can think of. The nurses were very involved in the design of the patient rooms. It is all done with the new earthquake standards required in California. It is a “smart hospital”.
What is also fascinating and shown in the video is InTouch translation capabilities at the end of the bed, 22 languages and instant patient information. Almost everything is designed to be off the floor, keeping infection rates down as things are easier to clean. The hospital has 399 beds. The hospital may in fact be the most wired hospital. They have a genomics center as well. As posted not too long ago, the genomics center is using Amalga from Microsoft.

The doctor speaks to the screen unit at the end of the bed and it is translated right back to the patient, amazing and good use of speech technology to save time and give faster and more efficient healthcare. BD
With Amalga from Microsoft the hospital was able to create a specific reporting feature to stay on top of Swine flu a their facility. We are basically talking about health care business intelligence capabilities. BD

After $480 million and five years of construction, El Camino Hospital in Mountain View is ready this weekend to celebrate the grand opening of its state-of-the-art, seismically sound acute care center.
The facility takes full advantage of new technologies, ranging from a wall-to-wall wireless network, to patient beds with built-in translators for 22 languages, to robots that move around the hospital carrying medical supplies and patient meals. Robotic devices help doctors perform surgeries and electronic lifts help get patients into beds safely.
