Well obviously this is spreading to the government entities and we are seeing some verification here too on the need to collaborate.  Everyone is stuck on imagethe “Innovation” word but really it takes care of itself, collaboration is what is needed.  All you need to do is put out what areas you want developed and they seem to be coming, the developers that is.  Perhaps it’s because of doing this blog and I constantly report on new innovations, they are coming out our ears!  You can read more about how the lack of collaboration is fouling up our healthcare system below.  Everyone wants to build the better mouse trap and few compare and share ideas.

The General Accounting Office seems to be backing this opinion up in stating both agencies are both working more so on their own projects and are not getting together on combined technologies.  The GAO goes further to recommend that both define and implement a process for joint IT investments.  Both agencies agree so now that we all agree, I guess we can see what happens next and see if we have efforts to bring this to fruition.  BD 

The Defense and Veterans Affairs departments aren't working effectively together to create a joint health architecture, according to a new report from the Government Accountability Office.

The departments have conducted pilot projects under the Virtual Lifetime Electronic Record development program and have combined digital record systems in a pilot implementation at a jointly operated medical center in Chicago.

However, DOD and VA face barriers in planning for specific goals and time frames for jointly fixing their health IT requirements, GAO said in its report dated Feb. 2.
