Why would a guy leave a good paying job at Optum? He would do much better staying where he was at but all that aside of course along with this comes the models used at United to bring into CMS and that’s the way it works. Doing the website and over seeing that portion is one thing but to have the title of deputy administrator at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services leave a lot open. Of course they want someone close to and on the inside as it makes it easier to model around if you have some inklings of what’s going on and it doesn’t have to be confidential information either, banks and insurers are good at keep their heads down to the “code” pavement, have done it for years.
Look at what this job entails: Responsibility for all of CMS’s operations, including Affordable Care Act programs, Medicare, the program for the elderly and disabled, and Medicaid, the program for low-income people and he gets a super easy boss that can be manipulated easily,Marilyn Tavenner. With every subsidiary they own and operate to also include companies where there’s a 51% controlling interest by United or one of their subsidiaries I can’t help but feel there’s conflict of interest if any one just goes there and looks and here’s listing of many of them here. Is there a lawsuit we don’t know about, like when the company sued DOD to get the west coast Tri-Care contract? By the way we still have never seen the suit or what it was about either and DOD fought hard against it.
Sylvia Mathews Burwell is already just a big disappointment and joins the ranks of Mary Jo White and Richard Cordray as they have no data mechanics logic and lobbying for United just became a whole lot easier. People that have not worked in some area of technology area really at a disadvantage when it comes to running IT intense government agencies and here we go again, same old story. Andy Slavitt will be running Tavenner as she no knowledge to disagree and has to believe what he says. If you watch the Quants of Wall Street Video that is explained in the financial world and it’s no different here. Paul Wilmott says the bankers and brokers don’t understand the quants and they have just have to believe them so there’s the role with Tavenner. She doesn’t have any tech knowledge and we have seen a lot of this and I call it the Sebelius Syndrome as she was so publicly bumbling around say the wrong things all the time with her weird perceptions on how “she thought” technology worked.
So sorry Burwell just another non data logic exec in the wall, sadly. Again I understand getting the site done and this guy could have stayed in his old job and made more money and have done just fine. Kurt DelBene, from Microsoft who had been in the advising position will be leaving. Be ready as here come the attacks of the killer algorithms with lots of studies and reports, probably from the Lewin company (subsidiary of United Healthcare) to substantiate what ever they want to do. Here’s a report from last year, this is how United advises CMS what to do.

The whole administration is so scary as they all live as Stat Rats in virtual worlds and are so out of touch with the real world. The VA should have been an awakening for them as well, same problem, out of touch with the real world.

Even communication from the White House is not much more than a regularly scheduled bot that drops in an email here and there and wants you to type your name into some form to agree or disagree with something so I’m bored with their bot too that does little. BD
Andy Slavitt, Optum’s group vice president, will become principal deputy administrator at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, U.S. officials said. The company he comes from, UnitedHealth, is the nation’s largest health insurer.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will also hire a chief executive officer and chief technology officer for the insurance exchanges, said Sylvia Mathews Burwell, who was approved by Congress as the HHS secretary on June 9, in a statement obtained by Bloomberg News. Previously, no single person was in charge of the exchanges, a lack of accountability faulted by both foes and supporters of Obamacare after healthcare.gov was found to be riddled with technical errors.
The changes “bring additional operational and technological firepower and have a clear single point of contact in the marketplace CEO to streamline decision-making,” Burwell said in the statement.
