Coastal Family Health Center Rises From the Ashes of Hurricane Katrina
Does it take a hurricane to convince "old dogs to learn new tricks"?
If new technology had been used prior to the hurricane, the patients records could have been backed up to a remote location, and now the rebuilding process is taking place. The good news is that all new records will be paperless and the loss of "paper" records, at least in this community will be a thing of the past. BD

Joe Dawsey, CEO Coastal Family Health, credits participation in the Katrina Phoenix Project and software provided by Companion Technologies as an instrumental part of its recovery plan. Coastal lost over 60,000 medical records as a result of the hurricane, said Dawsey. Implementing Companion's EMR system will serve as a means to prevent future devastation should another disaster occur as well as improve the overall healthcare delivery to Coastal residents."
Coastal lost all its patient medical records due to flood damage and had no practice management and billing system in place.
