All those claims for the last 2 weeks have been sitting on hold and tomorrow is the day so hopefully the bill will be signed.  At this point, all it is doing is working a further hardship on the doctors who have gone 2 weeks without any claims being paid.  What is the purpose of a veto at this point?  If it has to go back for the veto override, it just complicates matters worse, not to mention an additional accounting nightmare when it comes to processing the checks too.  There are more pressing issues in Congress that need to be dealt with, so hopefully he will not toss this one back to add to the agenda once more.  BD

Once this hold expires on Tuesday, contractors presumably will have no choice but to process the claims with the 10.6 percent cut required by current law—unless, that is, President Bush immediately signs H.R. 6331 into law. H.R. 6331 will halt the 10.6 percent cut, retroactive to July 1; provide a positive update in 2009 instead of another scheduled 5.4 percent cut; and make improvements in coverage and payment policies for prevention and primary care.
