Maybe an area we don’t think of too often but yet another large medical records and pharmacy system going in to place soon based on the success of the pilot program.  The article states the system from ATG is specifically designed to meet the needs of the correctional facilities and varies a bit from the systems used in normal hospitals and health care facilities.  In time more than likely it will also be integrated with outside facilities as care is needed outside the facilities from time to time  BD

West Des Moines, October 15, 2008: In less than 18 months, the Federal Bureau of Prisons (Bureau) has deployed ATG’s Electronic Medical Records and Pharmacy Administration systems to all 114 Bureau institutions nationwide serving over 165,000 inmates.
All doctors, physician’s assistants, nurses, lab assistants, pharmacists and pharmacist’ technicians located at 92 different sites were trained and were provided support staff to answer questions during the transition. Prescription information from legacy systems was migrated, and new interfaces to robotic prescription dispensing systems were implemented in this period. A real-time interface to the Bureau’s case records system, Sentry, was implemented to ensure that the medical systems had current inmate demographic information and for automatically rescheduling appointments as inmates are transferred between institutions.
