Survey says 199 is the average down from 222 when it began the survey in 1960...BD

For the first time in nearly 50 years, the average cholesterol level for U.S. adults is in the ideal range, according to a new government report.   Physicians say although Lipitor and other cholesterol-lowering drugs may lead to a small increase in cancer odds, the benefits of these drugs greatly outweigh these risks.

Results from a national blood test survey found the average total cholesterol level was 199. Doctors like patients to have total cholesterol readings of 200 or lower.

ABC News: Americans' Cholesterol Levels Improving

  1. Networks are broadcasting the news of lowered cholesterol numbers but no one mentioned the many of us who have developed serious muscle damage, chest pains, lowered energy levels because our body just can''t tolerate the side effects of the statins. I am currently in physical therapy for shoulder problems caused by damaged muscle. I should be glad that I am only suffering from sore shoulder. At least the other symptoms are not still manifested. Those symptoms included sore leg muscles, cramps, stiff neck, stiff torso, and worst of all chest pains. Just check out some of the chats about statin side effects people have experienced. You will think twice about how WONDERFUL statins are.

  2. Good points about statins and thanks for posting. At another forum where I comment and talk with MDs from all walks of life we had this very conversation and there was one really good recommendation that came out of this and it was the use of CO Q 10, an enzyme to help relieve some of the muscle pain and cramps from statins. I'll put a couple links in here where you can read about it. I take it myself, but am not on statins, but I feel it helps me overall with other issues. Take a look and see if it might be of interest for you and you can Google even more information.
