The secret is to hit the cancer with CyberKnife and not the healthy tissue around a tumor...BD

New hope for cancer patients who were told surgery would never work. A new robot at Roper St. Francis Hospital is giving doctors a new non-invasive way to treat their patients. The CyberKnife offers a new kind of radiation treatment for cancer patients who can't undergo surgery or standard chemotherapy. Before, those cancer patients could be medicated for their pain but there was nothing much else doctors could do for their symptoms.

What makes the CyberKnife so innovative is that while delivering the radiation through a laser, it is able to self-correct itself anytime the patient moves, like when the patient breaths. That means the radiation is only delivered directly to the tumor and not to any healthy tissue.

Doctors say the CyberKnife will help treat cancers in sensitive areas like the brain, spine and lungs. Whether the treatment will extend survival rates is still not known but at the very least doctors say it will greatly relieve patients' pain and symptoms.

  1. While the dose of radiation to healthy tissue is reduced with the Cyberknife relative to the target, it is not eliminated as stated in your review.

In the brain, there are other forms of stereotactic radiation available in South Carolina that have a proven track record that the Cyberknife in Charleston lacks.

  2. Thank you for the update...if there are some better alternatives here, I would love to hear more as that will add more value for the readers here too!

  3. Be very careful WHAT you believe about SRS...

there is only one game in town (unless you want bolts in your head) if you have a brain tumor & there is only one that allows you to lie down while the LINAC truly moves with 6 degrees of freedom zapping the tumor. If you have any of the other 5 cancers that have an approved protocol for CK use, it is the ONLY SRS game in town, contrary to misinformation and "financial" conflicts of interest!

Time is running out for the technologies that are not able to compare to CyberKnife... don't just take my word for it. It's a financial quandry owning the wrong technology when it is still new and costs are unrecovered... let alone NO PROFIT has been turned!

Do your OWN research and read...

everyone might find the results from googling " cancer, Dr. Jack Roth, & M. D. Anderson" very interesting. READ!

Consider a noted, above reproach thoracic surgeon willingly monitoring a study of CK versus open surgery for early stage lung cancer...

read Dr. Roth's comments about why he chose to be involved...

consider that MD Anderson has a Trilogy system, BUT CyberKnife IS the device chosen to do this study! READ and learn!

Twelve-eighteeen months... the clock is ticking... I have over 25 years in imaging services on all systems you can name (except for CK) doing technical maintenance, including systems used in radiation therapy...

IF I had any of the cancers that there is a CK approved protocol, I'd be one of the patients demanding to be treated by CK. If I had a cancer that did NOT have an approved protocol for treatment, I'd be seeing IF the company had an investigative study somewheere that I could participate & be treated with a CyberKnife!

Read and learn! Save a life, maybe your own!
