The system called VeriMed enables you to be implanted with a microchip linked to your medical information. It is implanted underneath the skin between the elbow and shoulder. Your physician can access the medical records by entering the chip number, which is 16 digits. The folks in south Florida will have the first chance to enroll. It is not free though and will cost around $10.00 monthly to maintain the files in the registry...this process takes a lot of time and effort to consider in my opinion as it puts one heck of a lot of information out there....and where does your identity go from there? It is FDA approved...BD
Delray Beach, Fla.-based VeriChip Corp. next week will begin its first direct-to-consumer marketing campaign for its radio frequency identification technology-based patient identification system. Initial marketing will focus on the South Florida area. The vendor also has changed the name of the application and created an informational Web site for the new campaign.
The vendor's direct-to-consumer program enables patients to be implanted with its microchip for free and pay a $9.95 monthly fee for its patient registry service. In addition, several leading medical centres including Beth Israel Deaconess and Hackensack University, have agreed to use the technology in their emergency departments with other facilities currently in talks with VeriChip.
