I remember when Nuance was just Dragon Naturally Speaking.  Over the last few years through development and acquiring additional speech recognition technologies the company has grown and seems to have a solution for speech recognition in almost area you can think of.  I use it for blogging, so maybe some day Nuance might have a version that is especially for bloggers, oh well until that day the general software works great.

Back to RadWhere, this can be a huge timesaver and help for radiologists working with the PACS systems when they have immediate access to dictate and create a report.  The information can be produced immediately and sent to it’s needed destination.  As with all speech recognition programs the library of commonly used words and phrases is important and saves training time when initially preparing a profile for use.

BURLINGTON, Mass.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Nuance Communications, Inc., a leading supplier of speech solutions, today  announced that its RadWhere speech recognition solution has significantly improved radiology workflow and productivity at three highly imageregarded facilities: Cook Children’s Health Care System in Fort Worth, Texas; University of Florida Health Science Center Jacksonville; and University of Mississippi Medical Center. With accuracy rates up to 99 percent, RadWhere improves the day-to-day tasks of everyone involved in the interpretation and delivery of diagnostic imaging exams, from referring physician to technologist, and ultimately increases the quality of patient care.

RadCube is another module that can be added for business intelligence connected with RadWhere for analytical purposes.  More on RadCube can be found here.  We can’t function anywhere today without our business intelligence software.  Also in the news today, the New York library system is investing in business intelligence software with the up and coming budget cuts so they can determine what hours are best to be open at each location and how to better serve the public on a restricted budget.

RadCube takes the next step as well with radiology to intelligently analyze and present information that otherwise would not be available or presentable under one format to utilize.  BD

From the website:

  • Real-Time Speech Recognition with Self Editing
Real-time speech recognition that allows you to view text as it is dictated. Edit using keyboard, mouse, and standard word processing tools, or with voice editing. The software immediately recognizes spoken changes and additions anywhere in the report.
  • Real-Time Speech Recognition with Auto-Loading Templates
Templates are mapped to procedure codes and are triggered by modifiers such as age and gender. Users can voice navigate standard text blocks which are fully voice editable.
  • Real-Time Speech Recognition with Auto-Structured Reporting
Auto-structured reporting eliminates the need for the radiologist to follow a structured format of a macro, while Natural language understanding (NLU) automatically structures report content. Once complete, the application presents the interpreting radiologist with a final report for review and edit. This intelligent phrase recognition and automatic organization tool can greatly reduce the time spent using conventional structured macros.
  • Real-Time Speech Recognition with Transcriptionist Editing
A combination of front-end speech recognition with transcription edit workflow. Reports may be created using speech recognition and any of the above reporting styles or through a built-in digital dictation interface.

Industry-wide Focus on Cutting Transcription Costs and Providing Better Patient Care Lead to Increased Adoption of Speech Recognition for Radiology Reporting

  2. What are the best pacs systems to use? Are there that many out there? What should I look for in the system?
