CHICAGO - A spokesman says Cook County's health system board wants to work closely with newly unionized doctors at Chicago's Stroger Hospital.
Doctors Council SEIU announced the agreement Wednesday between the hospital's doctors and the Cook County Health and Hospitals System Board.
The union is affiliated with the Service Employees International Union. It now represents more than 500 doctors in the Cook County public system. About 250 doctors are covered by the agreement signed Monday.
Health system spokesman Lucio Guerrero says the agreement made sense because doctors at other county hospitals already are unionized. He says it was important to have a strong relationship with Stroger Hospital doctors before a new performance improvement plan is unveiled.
