Health Net of California Expands Pioneering Cross-Border Health Plan into San Diego County
Health Net of California, a pioneer in offering customers the choice of receiving care in the U.S. or Mexico, is expanding its program, called Salud HMO y Más, into San Diego County. With the expansion, Salud HMO y Más now is available in San Diego, San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange and Los Angeles counties.
Salud HMO y Más is part of Salud con Health Net, an array of products providing access to quality, culturally sensitive and culturally competent health care, and it is the first and largest plan of its kind in the U.S. Doctors and hospitals in Mexico are overseen by Sistemas Medicos Nacionales S.A. de C.V. (SIMNSA), the only Mexican health plan licensed by the State of California.
In 2000, Health Net pioneered the option of receiving care in either the U.S. or Mexico. Today, it is expanding the program into San Diego County, whose proximity to the Mexico border serves as a gateway to quality, culturally sensitive and culturally competent medical care and services. Employers and individuals will be drawn by the program’s combination of affordability and flexibility.
