HUNTINGTON BEACH Surf City is the latest city in Orange County to consider a ban on medical marijuana dispensaries.

The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing Tuesday to discuss the issue.  Other cities considering a ban on the dispensaries include Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Mission Viejo, Newport Beach, Seal Beach and Cypress.

The city has no medical marijuana dispensaries. An application for one in 2005 never panned out.

Recently, however, the city has received requests for a dispensary permit from three Marina High School students, officials said.

  1. I am 57 years old and smoked marijuana for about 4 years between the ages of 17 and 22. I was a daily smoker and found the effects very calming and peaceful. I quit because I got busted dealing. The way it was back then, if you used, you sold or gave pot to friends. Therefore almost every smoker was a dealer. Giving weed to friends was called "turning them on". Money was not the objective of selling weed. It was mainly for sustaining his or her own desire to purchase more weed.
When I read about what is going on in CA and other states where the populace voted it legal for medical use and yet the Feds spend money and manpower to keep it from those who have genuine medical needs I am baffled. It's almost like a superstition that pot is dangerous. My wife has been fighting lung cancer with metastatic tumors to the brain. She has severe nausea and vomiting reactions to conventional opioid medications and I would like to acquire some marijuana to see if it would help (she has never used weed). The problem is we would both be criminals.
