Interesting story on the combination of detox and pain management...Orange County, CA and Israel are the 2 locations where this procedure is used at present...detox combined with pain management...the story does bring many questions about how the 2 could or should function together in the same facility...jury will more than likely be out on this one for some time..BD
State health regulators have accused a well-known Newport Beach anesthesiologist of medical negligence in his unorthodox "rapid detox" drug treatment program. Dr. Clifford Bernstein released a female patient who later developed pancreatitis and other health problems after undergoing opiate withdrawal under anesthesia at Garden Grove Hospital, according to the accusation by the Medical Board of California. The board accuses Bernstein of filling out the patient's discharge papers without reporting her ongoing flu-like symptoms.

But some patients say they became hooked on painkillers Bernstein prescribed and then were encouraged to undergo his rapid detox program.
"It's strange he (prescribes painkillers) and then he has a business that gets people off pills," said Elaine Domino of Newport Beach, who went to Bernstein for pain from a back injury. Of her rapid detox experience, she said: "It knocks you out physically for months. I would never recommend that to anybody."
He is cleaning up the mess from other nonpain management doctors who prescribe tons of pain pills without possessing knowledge in the field. Then, when that doctor has escalated the patient's pain pill doses so high that he is worried about losing his license, he kicks the patients out of their practice and leaves Dr. Bernstein to clean up the mess. Dr. Bernstein is about the strictest physician around with regard to prescribing pain pills. Check your facts before you do a smear campaign!
ReplyDeleteAnd of Elaine Domino, she sure was eager to jump on the media bandwagon promoting him, and now here she is on the media bandwagon for an unjustified smear campaign. Maybe she likes the spotlight and wants 2 15-minutes of fame.
ReplyDeleteGood points and this was not meant to offer anything more than information here from other sources, Patients arrive with a history of existing problems, their own and potentially created from other areas, otherwise they would not be there looking for help in the first place.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Now let me address another untrue item in that article: His office does have the necessary equipment to resuscitate a patient in case of side effects from steroid injections. Patients are told of the risks before the procedures. Medicine is not an exact science, or it would be called that. There are risks to every surgery or procedure. I have these same injections performed every month. I not only transcribe pain management reports, but I am a patient as well, so I have a significant amount of insight into this, a lot more than the writers of that article. Did this article mention anything about the CURES program, patient activity reports run at the pharmacy letting the doctors know when patients are abusing medications, or the random urine/toxicology tests that are performed? No. The article sounds like narcotics are just being tossed in the air like a pinata instead of the strictest precautions being taken. I am completely outraged at such a sloppy reporting job. It was a smear campaign no where near the truth. Go after the physicians with no training in pain management who are not supposed to be prescribing such high amounts of narcotics instead of the ones who try to help them.
ReplyDeleteshut the f##k up dianna. it's completely obvious that there is a conflict of interest on bernstein's part. it's laughable that he prescribes pain pills then provides a treatment to get people off them. this guy is just interested in money. I did the rapid detox and developed pancreatitis as well.they had the nerve to tell me I was a freak occurrence, this article seems to prove otherwise. I was in such agony that I couldn't enjoy the benefits of recovery at domus. rapid detox is like getting hit by a train. maybe it's better for people who aren't on such high dosed of opiates, but for those who are I think this procedure is hell.
ReplyDeleteI agree..i saw bernstien and know for a fact that he is jerk who is nothing but money hungry...he gave me word for word the same spill thst I just read by "Dianna " who is pro ally bernstein....he id a horri le..lying....shisty little man...
Deleteand still no Dianna ( basically Bernstein's PR ) to be found?.....tell me does Bernstein still run the Waismann method because I don't see him on the website or being paraded in the media anymore? I would think Bernstein is probably still running the show low key now because of all the justifiable bad press against him. There is no way Bernstein gives up that seat, the man is just interested in dollars. He has a horrible attitude and a god complex. Well Bernstein, at least I know God wouldn't kill someone with a poor injection to the neck or quickly pushing them out of a hospital without realizing the rapid detox gave the patient pancreatitis. Lowenstein seems to now be the one represented in the media, tv and the website itself....hmm wonder why?
