Very good article to read...and point well made about traveling and finding something that will work with various platforms...and the choices can vary quite a bit with cost and quality. BD
"The technology is ready to replace airline travel with desktop teleconferencing, but our business culture is not. We want to be about to reach out and touch the speaker, even if it means traveling thousands of miles and enduring the pain and expense of domestic airlines. As oil prices continue to rise and as climate change accelerates, it may be that economic and social forces will align to minimize physical travel and encourage us all to use low cost bandwidth from the comfort of our homes and offices instead."

Microsoft recently release their Unified Communications Server which can also prove to be a cost effective alternative, and it will integrate with MS Office as well, so I felt this was a good time to include the "spoof" done by Microsoft showing the server and Windows Mobile use together with the short video showing "The Devil Wears Prada" . I live in Outlook for all my information so this is something that would be appealing. BD
Also I have used Skype on a limited basis, but not for a large conference with both audio and video. BD
Recently I had the opportunity to visit the Microsoft Tech Center in Irvine, California, one of 7 current domestic locations and saw and participated in a demonstration with the Round Tablet device and watching how intuitive the device is to focus almost immediately on the person speaking was amazing. The Technology Center is set up to help enterprise accounts with 3 areas of assistance to build and create their applications, test and debug before they go live on an actual working network. The 3 areas are Strategy, Architecture Design and Proof of Concept and Unified Communications is an active part of the entire concept. When you stop and think about the time spent traveling and the fact that it also equates to time away from family, in time we may finally come around to embrace some of the technology alternatives available.
