Good in concept as long as the information is not used to deny claims or enrollment...which has been the big issue in the past, even to the lawsuit with several people re-enrolled....plus the insurance companies have the information already on file from one company to another....so this appears to be an effort to have the patient add more information...it was already tried with Blue Cross not too long ago with the LA Times posting an article about wanting the doctors to "rat" on the patients to complete file information...again the "cherry picking" of who will be covered is the scary part to this entire scenario...jury is still out on this one....BD
SACRAMENTO ― Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner, joined by doctors and industry executives from Anthem, UnitedHealth, Health Net, Kaiser and Aetna, announced today the creation of an industry working group to ensure that patients can transfer their Personal Health Records (PHR) between insurance companies. He also encouraged patients to use PHRs, a tool to manage an individual's medical information.
"The expanded use of personal health records will both improve patient care and potentially reduce health care costs," said Commissioner Poizner. "To that end, I am working with technology experts to make sure your entire medical history should be available to you, to use as you see fit regardless of who your insurer is at a given time."
