They used to charge for the software and now money will be made from support by offering the clinical software and server source code for no charge...in essence making the EMR/EHR software truly open source for those who want to run the Vista system, originating from the VA...tweaked to accommodate an installation outside of the VA....BD
Hospital electronic records vendor Medsphere Systems Corp. has substantially changed its business model, releasing on the open source market the source code of its OpenVista clinical information system.
The Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based company previously sold a commercialized version of the VistA information system developed at the Department of Veterans Affairs. VistA’s source code has been available for free for many years.
