"Electronic Shoeboxes"....perhaps Cerner and Aetna, who has spoken out publicly in a similar fashion should get together....it sounds like both firms are perhaps somewhat concerned about losing some existing or potential business...obviously they don't need the business as they are doing well, but in a time where healthcare is trying to involve patients in their own healthcare and efforts from Google and Microsoft are making moves in that direction, well it just doesn't seem to fit the pattern or philosophy of helping create the better informed patient...in the endeavor for better healthcare....but in the meantime a couple very prominent hospitals and Labs have embraced the idea....BD
Google Inc. has approached Cerner Corp. about a partnership, but Cerner officials don't sound eager to entangle themselves with the Web-search Goliath. That's because the proposed partnership relates to Google Health, the personal health record site launched earlier in May in beta form.
The overture hasn't led to substantive talks, Cerner President Trace Devanny said, because Cerner doesn't see much value in Google Health or HealthVault, a similar site that Microsoft Corp. launched in October.
Cerner CEO Neal Patterson referred to the sites during a May 23 shareholders meeting as "electronic shoeboxes," requiring consumers to do much of the data importing and updating.
