So why are they still posted on the web? You are not going to get all the information you really need from a “text box”, as there’s a bit missing, like sound, interaction, and son on. But on a related story, the AMA is now rating insurance companies. It compares Medicare and 7 national insurance carriers. United had the lowest rate of contract compliance, which even by their own admission, they said they need to do better. Believe it or not, Medicare performed better than most of the private insurers. One thing worth mentioning though is the fact that the AMA did not share their information before releasing, something that someone took note of along the way. There might be more news to come as their 5 day policy making meeting goes on in Chicago this week. BD
For all the concern and mistrust over physician rating sites, recent research shows that, for now, few patients are using them to decide where to get their care. A Harris Interactive poll commissioned by the California HealthCare Foundation found that although more than 80% of the state's adults turn to the Internet for health-related information, less than one-quarter have looked at physician ratings sites. Only 2% of those surveyed made a change in physicians based on information posted on a rating site.
