If you are on a strict budget, there is software that can help you out, EZClaim.  I have used and installed this software a client locations and it does imagewhat is says it does.  It is not practice management, but rather advanced billing software.  You can find a link to EZClaim under the resources area on the right hand side.  There are 2 versions, one for paper billing and the Advanced version, which is what I recommend and it can also be installed over an office network.  Many other systems can also connect to EZClaim.

This is what the software looks like, pretty straight forward and will work with both EZClaim’s clearinghouse and most others.  Originally when I was still writing software, I integrated the program with my EMR, so I can speak first hand from that side of the coin.  If you are just a one PC office and only need billing on one computer you can get started pretty inexpensively for $395.00.

For additional computers, additional licenses can be added, and they are a bit less than the first license purchased with an add on price. A 30 day trial is available for download.

You can also find a link to the Medical Quack here at EZClaim.

There are packages as well for:

ANSI 837 Professional Billing Package

Module to connect to Quick Books

The add on for Quick Books could certainly prove useful in not having to re-enter the same data twice!

This is what the main screen of the program looks like for EZClaim Advanced Billing.

In addition to the billing software, EZClaim also has a Scheduler that integrates.  This is nice as you already have your patients already loaded from the EZClaim Billing software if you add the Scheduler later and the same would apply for the reverse with the Scheduler added first.

The Scheduler is pretty easy to work with and has drag and drop features.  You can customize colors and a detail of what is owed and the insurance carrier is show for each patient on the left side.

When working with the Scheduler, you can easily bring up EZClaim Billing Software in the same screen too.

Also, if you happen to use Amazing Charts for your EMR, it also integrated with EZClaim.  You can use both if you are on a small budget, but need something to get started without a huge investment.  Both companies have active user forums where you can compare notes and find suggestions and answers with other users and offer a 30 day download trial.

As times and money are tight right now, I just thought it was well worth mentioning some healthcare software that is available that is comparatively inexpensive to use and get started.  BD

  1. Yes, but do you get paid? I can't tell you how many doctors I hear crying about Medicare, and it's basically different variations on the same theme: their billing service didn't keep up with changes in complex Medicare billing rules. One guy I know didn't get paid for over a year, and another guy I know still hasn't gotten paid.

I was fortunate enough to work with two billing services (clearinghouses) that get the job done.

As young as I am, even I recognize what it means to be penny wise and pound foolish on billing. Sometimes it's better to spend a little more and get peace of mind knowing you will get your money.

Perhaps these guys are good, but I would rather talk to some references currently using their service first, even if their initial startup cost is decent.

  2. From my clients using EZClaim, it has worked fine and the software will work with other clearinghouses as well, such as Office Ally, also found here under references. Office Ally is a free clearinghouse for the physicians and the carriers pay.

EZClaim is the software that will create the billing images to be uploaded to clearinghouses to scrub.

For a bit more money, you can get set up with the full on EZClaim electronic submissions that go direct, which is a bit more costly than going through a clearinghouse with set up, so unless you are really right on top of everything, the clearinghouses are pretty much the way to go to avoid having delays in getting claims paid due to errors, etc.

Hope that helps out. EZClaim has been around for a while and I have done several conversions of data bases from Medisoft for customers who want to make the change, and years back I integrated the software with the EMR I wrote too, so good stuff here from my opinion.

  3. In response to InteractMD's comments, I agree that doctors should be spending more on quality in-house billing personnel or if they prefer, use a quality outside billing service. I find it odd that doctors will spend large amounts of money on offices, computers, software, etc, only to hire a billing person that has never done medical billing before, then complain that they never get paid. Medical billing requires detailed knowledge and concerted follow-up.

EZClaim provides excellent software that includes the tools you need to manage and process your claims. No matter how you choose to bill, either electronically or on paper, EZClaim has a product that fits your needs.

I urge anyone to try it themselves. Download the trial and post some questions in our forum for user feedback. You will see that EZClaim has been in business for over 11 years not because we have low cost software but because it works.

  4. Has anyone tried using VersaForm for medical billing?

  5. Keeping your patients personal information safe is a very important task, we must protect the client’s privacy and prevent anyone to ever view these records without the expressed permission of the client.
