I hate to say this, but unfortunately someone somewhere along the line will test the waters again. We had it here in Los Angeles too. There’s a patent pending solution from Microsoft called “Device Manners Policy” that has the capability of limiting or completely squashing a cell phone from functioning in designated areas. To make a call, you simply walk outside the zone to use your phone. This also needs all the cell phone carriers to participate, but I would love to see this in every movie theater myself.
Now in a theater, the silent treatment would be needed only, in other words texting could still function there, but no sound. Signs posted as well as a free text message appear to notify so there is not question that you are in a dead zone. In the case of the trolley cars, the engineer’s area could be totally closed off, leaving the passenger compartment open for communication. So in short, if we lack manners and the ability to know when and where not to use our phones, technology could help us out and save lives. Put it in the Cloud. BD
Microsoft's Device Manners Policy Patent Enforces "No-Talking Zones"
NECN: Brad Puffer, Boston, Mass.) - The new stickers placed inside Green Line trolleys Wednesday make the new policy very clear: "Possession or use of cell phones or other electronic devices is strictly prohibited." The change comes just days after a Green Line Trolley crash injured more than 40 people, all because the 24 year old driver allegedly admitted to texting on his phone and missing a red light.
