This is a good short video, with humor that talks about the people we all love to hate, the empowerment of the cell phone.  Think about it, they are everywhere and at times we are all participants.    There’s nothing more important at the time than what is coming in on the cell phone.  Granted, there is a lot of important information coming in to respond to, but what is our level of response.  Can we figure it out?

He makes some very humorous points here, the person in your presence when the cell phone data or call arrives is no longer a priority, the phone is king.  Now with some areas of healthcare, this is a problem.

I don’t think this issue is going to by any means help it self much.  We will need some sort of technology to give it a hand as we are just stuck in a world of entertaining ourselves as a priority.  We have all done it it some degree and we have all complained too.  We had lawmakers too wanting to create a law for privacy to make a cell phone click when a picture is taken?  Strange, but it was there.

One of my favorites and I hope this one makes it is this:

Microsoft's Device Manners Policy Patent Enforces "No-Talking Zones"

We are going to need some way to silence the noise, and by have no talk zones, this might do it.  By signs and warnings received on the phone, you know you are entering a “silent zone”.  If you need to connect and talk, step outside the zone.  That sounds pretty simple.  You could still receive imagetext but noise and pictures could be out.  I like the name of the technology too, “DEVICE MANNERS”.

“This is either the best or worst idea ever, depending on your point of view. Microsoft has patented what it calls a "device manners policy" (DMP), a wireless zone-enforced device protocol that allows local operators to turn certain features off (or on) based on local manner and safety policy.
Similar to how wireless service on planes can
lock out voice but allow data, Microsoft's DMP concept would allow local czars to enforce, for example, "no talking out loud" or "no photography" rules. Audio recording could be disabled at concerts, video recording killed at theaters, and ringers turned off at funerals. Of course, this all requires manufacturers to comply with the DMP protocol in their devices. In the end, we'd be looking at a pre-movie PSA that says "your phone is now being put on silent" rather than "please turn off your cell phone.”

Education in the process too is important, important enough that the Gates Foundation found you have to pay to get education material in effective areas, to somehow reach those who are trapped in a world of technology just entertaining themselves.  Don’t get me wrong here, I like a little entertainment as well too, but there are some that have a time stepping over the line to the educational or intellectual side for a few minutes.

Go buy a new PC and the focus is all games, so we promote entertainment too over education with products as they sell better.  Most non profits ask for for educational time and it gets squeezed in, but with the Gates Foundation stepping in, they went one step further in buying time to ensure some educational matter gets out there on television too, for those who are glued and perhaps don’t read a lot.  image

Gates Foundation and Viacom Team Up for “Get Schooled”

Back on topic here with the cell phones, we have a lot of folks using phones that have priority issues and the phone is changing who and what they are as well as values.  I read someone this week who complained at a convention about cell phone use, the noise level that distracted from a presentation being given.

The video makes a good point on remembering how to be human, something that seems to be slipping away today with the imbalance of data and information available and the ability to hug or shake hands with your fellow human, and really mean it, not just a text box with a canned response.  I hear a lot of people talking about education today and lots of good things are said, but are we in fact practicing any of this?  Just a question that comes to mind as educating cell phones uses would be one topic I would love to see addressed, as does the video above in making one think.  BD
