Most of the services are free; however for a large item requiring a substantial amount of leg work, I'm sure a nice tip would be a good suggestion here as well...I can see where this type of service would seem to flourish at any hospital..BD

At the Hospital of Central Connecticut, volunteers wheel a metal cart into patients' rooms to let them know about the concierge services, offer them free newspapers and give them the concierge's phone number. The cart is stocked with toothpaste, chocolate and other essentials that patients can purchase. Patients can also borrow reading glasses, check their e-mail on a borrowed laptop and receive free handmade lap robes.
Patients, and anyone else at the hospital, can also request an array of services including pet care, oil changes, take-out meals and dry cleaning through the concierge. The concierge contacts outside vendors who pick up the goods, service and return them. People who use those services pay the vendor — Wagging Tails Pet Sitting Service, for example — what they typically would if they ran the errands themselves.

One visitor who found out about the program was skeptical. He asked for a massage.
Phelan, the volunteer services director, didn't skip a beat.
"As a matter of fact, the masseuse will be here at noon today," she told him. "He was like, 'I can't believe this!'"

Mayer, the concierge, estimates that about 200 people have used her services so far. Her customers include a doctor who forgot his wife's birthday but didn't want to go home empty-handed and a visitor who wanted to plan a family night on the town.  Leonard, a pediatrician, figured that her employer's new concierge service could add a fragrant touch to her Thanksgiving-weekend service without interfering with her busy schedule.
