They had two and now these 3 to be opened by the end of the year make 5 in Texas plus the one in Kansas.  Here’s the back link on the first announcement.  Unlike retail clinics, there are real doctors here and I would guess like the rest of their Optum locations and contracts, doctors get paid somewhere between Medicare and Medicaid rates.  I swear one day Medicare will be a the top, and in some areas of Florida it is.

United Healthcare Now Entering the urgent care Clinic Business To Help Keep Patients Out of the ER, Two More Opening In Houston–Subsidiary Watch

About a year and a half ago the Supreme Court ruled that doctors could group together to litigate and since that ruling came out we are seeing a lot more from the “too big to fail” insurer with more different types of subsidiaries.  The fought this one for years to keep it one doctor up against the big corporation.

US supreme court Rules Physicians Can Work As A Group To Fight Unfair Business Practices of Health Insurers–Victory Over United Healthcare (Oxford Subsidiary)–Context Once Again With Contracts

I would guess the doctors that work here are either direct employees or members of a physician’s group that Optum owns, since they have via Optum acquired many physicians groups in the US, or as an alternative, they might own the company that manages the group.

Optum, affiliated with one of the country's largest health-care companies, UnitedHealth Group, is opening three new urgent care clinics in the Houston area because of its booming economy and population.

Adding to its existing two locations, Optum opened its Baybrook Village clinic in Webster this week. Its Energy Corridor clinic at 13410 Briar Forest will open Monday. A fifth clinic is to open by the end of the year in Greenway Plaza.

Dr. Lisa Tseng, Optum Clinic CEO, said the company seeks to accommodate consumers with conveniently located clinics that are open after traditional workday hours and on weekends.

Unlike retail-based providers, Tseng said her clinics are staffed by doctors who can treat most non-emergency medical situations, including basic wound stitching. Optum Clinics also perform on-site lab testing and X-rays, she said. They do not include pharmacies.

Clinics also provide cosmetic treatments, such as facial peels and anti-wrinkle treatments, and pediatric care. School, camp and sports physicals can be performed without appointments.
