Pfizer adopts Microsoft OneNote for Web Collaboration With SharePoint

Print to OneNote - Great Organizational tool

For anyone needing to keep their notes, emails, client information in one place, this is a killer application.  I can literally take anything and include it in One Note for easy access and searching.  Why spend all the time digging through the drive of a PC, when this makes the process so very simple and it is not hard to use at all.  If you have a bunch of Word documents relative to a meeting, this makes it so simple.  Need to find the information later, let One Note do the work for you and it will search by keyword.  I use this all the time in my  business and what a huge timeserver it can be.  One Note can be used from a desktop as well as a tablet too.  At the hospital making notes with a tablet can be a really simple task too and you have everything in one place.  Need to share  information with another MD, One Note can do by sharing a selected file.  BD You may not have noticed it, but when you installed OneNote 2007, you got a new printer: Send to OneNote 2007. If you need to add anything to your notes, you use File Print and select this printer. Short delay (how long depends on how big an item you are printing) and then the item appears in your notes. <blockquote> What can you print to OneNote? Well, I haven’t found anything I can’t print to OneNote 2007 this way. Big documents take a long time, but they do get there. Where? Oh - by default, the new notes will end up on a page in the Unfiled Notes section. Microsoft Offers One Note for the IPhone And It’s Free For Now-Get It For Taking Notes

How to Take Notes on Your Notebook (Computer)

Good article on the use of One Note...Part of the Microsoft Office Suite...this is something I use all the time to keep notes on all my meetings with clients...and when I need to find a note from a past meeting, I can simply do a query to find the note...AND...it will search my notes that were saved in ink, in other words it searches my handwriting...this articles talks about the many ways a notebook and tablet can be used for notes..with One Note being the top candidate for all...it is by far the easiest... One Note Users are outnumbering Power Point users at Microsoft

Microsoft Office OneNote And the Ablet Factory EMR Reviewed Once More…

I know everyone today is talking about the Apple Tablet announcement today and while reading all the tablet news, I happened to run across this post  from <a href="http://blogs.msdn.com/healthblog/archive/2010/01/27/a-right-sized-emr-tablet-pc-microsoft-office-onenote.aspx">Dr. Crounse</a>  at the HealthBlog referencing Tablet PCs and thought I would look around a  little bit and see what I had in the archives here regarding the portion about the Ablet Factory.  I went back through my entries since 2007 and I found about ten posts about the <a href="http://www.abletfactory.com/EMRSuite.html">Ablet Factory,</a> do you think I like his stuff?  Of course I do and being an avid One Note User<a href="http://www.abletfactory.com/"><img align="right" border="0" height="122" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_v3zjJigoAPE/SrMmKy-kr1I/AAAAAAAAaAA/qMyCLvY2Ap0/image_thumb[2].png?imgmax=800" style="border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; display: inline; margin-left: 0px; border-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; border-right: 0px" width="136" /></a> myself and having written an EMR years ago, it fits the agenda.  One Note, once you understand the over all concept is like having each section represent a “book” you are writing.  The Title is in the left hand side, the chapters go across the top, and the Pages are on the right, pretty simple.  I used One Note to work a convention and walked around with a tablet and it made me very productive and the folks I spoke with were impressed to as it showed interest and I was ready to make notes on what we discussed so as not to forget and miss something.  It has been a while but at one point in time before I stopped writing code,  Fritz and I talked about collaborating and shortly after that I decided to hang up the code hat (not Fritz’s fault) and switch gears, but the knowledge of data aggregation and  overall how an EMR functions is still there, you learn that real well when you write one and compare notes with others who program.  The One Note EMR kit is an EMR, not an EHR certified product and is perfect for a small practice or even a solo physician office and is a great way to begin.  Psychiatrists do a lot of writing and thus for them it offers the ability for long either hand written or “inking to text” conversion, however you want to do it.  It is modular so you can add on a couple modules if you like, but each one is only a few hundred dollars.  I personally like the vocabulary plug in, use that for medical technology that I learn just by doing this blog.  <img height="233" src="http://lh6.google.com/DucknetServices/Rz_RazAnieI/AAAAAAAAAT0/mLYOCP9UsLU/image[16].png?imgmax=800" width="349" /> I am of course very happy to see tablets making a come back, although they never died for those who saw value.  Just to set the record straight here, I do like Apple products too and am working from my IMAC right now, so nobody’s feelings get riffled here.   I guess the reason I have so many posts here about the Ablet Factory is that Fritz sends me an update when new versions and products become available and I post them on the blog for awareness.   The tablet I use now has dual array microphones, so no headset required in a quiet to semi quiet area for me to dictate.  Check out the video below from CES 2007 with Fritz doing a walk through on a tablet to show you how the software works.   <img height="212" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/DucknetServices/SEBMNLF-AeI/AAAAAAAAHUQ/3T5QY8yWYGA/image[12].png?imgmax=800" width="352" /> The products from the Ablet Factor are affordable and definitely fill a niche in healthcare today, plus the programmer does good work (grin).  In looking at my reports on what is read at the Medical Quack, I see quite a few searches and reads on One Note EMRs.  BD  <blockquote> </a><a href="http://blogs.msdn.com/healthblog/archive/2010/01/27/a-right-sized-emr-tablet-pc-microsoft-office-onenote.aspx">From Dr. Crounse:</a> “Of course, it’s not really so much about the device as it is what you can do with it.  First and foremost, these are full-function computing and productivity solutions (unlike that shiny new Apple).  Tablet PCs more closely mimic the familiar patient chart.  They can be used, digital pen in hand, without feeling intrusive in the physician-patient encounter.  They accommodate multi-modal data input including keyboard (when docked), digital inking, point and click, voice and even touch including <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/features/windows-touch.aspx">multi-touch</a> with Windows 7.  The inherent speech engine in Windows Vista and Windows 7 is so good, it is even possible to do excellent speech recognition dictation if you are willing to put in a little effort up front.  When connected wirelessly to a corporate network or the Internet, Tablet PCs provide instant access to the information you need, when and where you need it.  They can also run all of the other applications you might want to use in your office or home.” What Dr. Rosenbach didn’t know until I told him, was that there is actually a company that has for many years been selling an EMR solution based on Microsoft Office OneNote for the Tablet PC.  That company is the <a href="http://www.abletfactory.com/">Ablet Factory</a>.  I received an update from company founder, Fritz Switzer, in this morning’s mail.  I had asked him to tell me what medical specialties where particularly drawn to his company’s solution. <img height="230" src="http://lh6.google.com/DucknetServices/R45qsi6VHiI/AAAAAAAACE8/rDBJyz4T8-E/image_thumb[1]?imgmax=800" width="354" />  Meet Fritz the Programmer from CES 2007 as he does a hands on demonstration. <div style="padding-bottom: 0px; Writing notes on your computer....

Good article about a business executive who got tired of lugging around paper and made the move to paperless!  He makes many good points here and encompasses One Note from Microsoft as part of his routine, an excellent choice as I do the very same thing and I can't tell you the time it saves in having to reference notes from a prior meeting and the convenience of having them all in one locations.  It is also nice to take notes and use the nice export to Outlook tool as well to email the notes to all attendees!  BD <blockquote> DON’T ASK ME for a pen, because I might not be carrying one. That’s because I now write down all my meeting notes in a computer that understands handwriting — even mine. Read on to see how this saves countless hours a week. I always thought this was a terrible waste of time, so when I it came time to upgrade my computer I chose a tablet PC — a machine that behaves like a regular laptop until you give the screen a twist and it turns into a computer capable of accepting handwritten input as well as pictures and diagrams. When it comes time to enter text, a little box pops up and you just write down the information as if you were using a pen. This works for virtually any program. For e-mails and word documents, your handwriting is converted word for word into text, and it is amazing how accurate it is. However, it is with a program called OneNote that the pen becomes mightier than the keyboard. With OneNote (an optional part of the Microsoft Office suite), the computer can interpret your writing as you go, or you can tell it to just accept anything — words, diagrams, squiggles, whatever. I can also ask OneNote to search through my original notes for text I am looking for, just as I would do a search in Word, and it will actually find the text even though it is in my handwriting. OneNote for Office 2007 - Watch One Note in Action

I use One Note every day to keep client issues together. The integration with Outlook is phenomenal as I have everything relative to a client issue in one place. I have been using One Note for many years and it is so simple to query notes from a year ago and have them available for a meeting with a client. Sending to and from One Note is also great as I can be in a meeting and email all participants the copies of the notes I just took during the meeting. BD Gather your information in one place, find what you need fast, and share your notes and information. Get started with the new One Note. Microsoft Life Sciences Annual Innovation Awards 2011 And How To Submit Entries, Pfizer and Merck Among Past Winners

The digital notepad vs. the paper notepad

Good article about using <a href="http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/onenote/FX100487701033.aspx">One Note</a> as a digital notebook...I too use One Note and would be lost without it these days.  I watch folks dig through the root of the drive on their pc, or through My Documents to find stuff all the time, wasted time when a search via saved notes in <a href="http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/onenote/FX100487701033.aspx">One Note</a> does it in a few seconds...I found I no longer have to rely on my memory on where an article is placed and know the Tablet PC and One Note can do it much faster than I can...he also brings up a very good point too about scanning in paper notes for those times when you may not have the Tablet with you...excellent suggestion and I do the same...so again everything is in one place...and no paper...and the feature of adding an email from Outlook is one of my favorites as I have everything immediately available for meetings, discussions, etc. instead of wasting the time of others "looking" for information...ANYONE WHO ATTENDS MEETINGS AND IS RESPONSIBLE FOR INFORMATION AND JUST THE OVERALL CONVENIENCE OF HAVING EVERYTHING UNDER ONE ROOF CAN USE ONE NOTE - EVEN ON A DESKTOP PC IT WORKS WELL, ADMINISTRATORS, CEOS, CIOS, ETC. - ONE NOTE IS A TOOL NOT TO BE OVER LOOKED, PRICE IS NOT BAD AND IT IS PART OF MICROSOFT OFFICE AND INTEGRATES WELL WITH ALL THE OTHER UNITS.  BD<a href="http://lh6.google.com/DucknetServices/R1gumppnm8I/AAAAAAAAAaY/LP7VeYwlujU/image%5B3%5D?imgmax=800"><img align="right" alt="image" border="0" height="159" src="http://lh3.google.com/DucknetServices/R1gun5pnm9I/AAAAAAAAAag/FjJ-Z-v6o80/image_thumb%5B1%5D?imgmax=800" style="border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px" width="244"></a> <blockquote> Kevin's note about note taking pointed to an interesting paper note-taker and how that system works well for him. OneNote Calendar

Microsoft Providing Office 365 Free To Students When It Is Licensed For University Facility and Staff…Office 365 Pro Plus At No Additional Cost

Now, Microsoft has gone significantly further, providing a free copy of Office to students whose schools license it for their faculty and staff. The Student Advantage program essentially extends an Office 365 subscription to the student body. Beginning Dec. 1, any academic institution that licenses Office for staff and faculty can provide Office 365 ProPlus for students at no additional cost, Microsoft announced at the Educause 2013 conference. But only the paid A3 tiers and above offer desktop versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, Access, Lync, and OneNote; under that plan, students pay $2.50 per month per user, and faculty and staff pay $4.50 per user, per month. Students can also buy a four-year Office 365 University license for $79.99.
