Partnering with an EMR company to mine data for genetic markers...used for research development...as always the information will be generic in not revealing any names; however when information of the sort is queried against other data bases you end with with "matches"...it's done all the time with data base tables, so hopefully there won't be any invasion of privacy here as there are no real laws on the books about "data queries" when it comes to health care....but who knows...4 million records is a pretty big till...which EMR company is established with that amount of records I guess would be the question....and will it be announced to the patients?....BD  image

Perlegen Sciences said this week that it is partnering with an undisclosed electronic medical records company to search through data from four million patients for genetic markers that could help predict patient response to certain medical treatments. The EMR company will be paid subscription and program fees and milestone payments connected to the launch of any new diagnostic tests that result from the collaboration. Perlegen also said it will receive partial ownership in the EMR provider, the volume of which will be dependent on achieving certain revenue levels.

Perlegen said it has exclusive access to a database of US medical records, from which it will target patients who will be sought for DNA samples.

Perlegen “will never have access to specific patient identities, but instead will only receive de-identified patient records, which can then be re-identified only by participating healthcare institutions” in a manner that is consistent with US health insurance law, the company said.
