This article discusses what Cuba has going on with Biotech and how both the US and Cuba might benefit with working together. She states the US is the one who is isolated as Cuba has relations with most all other countries in the west. We all remember seeing some of what Cuba has to offer if we reflect back to “Sicko” when Michael Moore made his visit. Other areas discussed by the congress woman included medical tourism and medical devices. BD
Rep. Barbara Lee of Oakland, fresh off the U.S. Air Force jet that took her to her historic Cuba trip and her visit with Fidel Castro, told us this week that she will now be pushing for U.S.-Cuba exchanges of biotech and medical equipment -- as well as student exchanges -- that she believes could save lives and help the economy of her East Bay district.
"They found a vaccine for hepatitis B; they're working on some HIV/AIDS vaccines, for meningitis," she said. Now, "I'm thinking (of going back to) my biotech companies in Emeryville" -- her home district -- "to see what they think about the possibilities of scientific exchanges."
Cubans, too, could benefit from life-saving American medical equipment and advances, she said. "There's so much to do, and so much to gain,'' she said." Cuba has relations with every country in the Western Hemisphere, 15 countries," she told us, which means that -- on this particular relationship, "America is the country that's isolated, not Cuba."
