I remember the old building and yes it was getting antiquated. The facility has 350 beds of which 95% are private. Also in the news today, ironically on the same day, another hospital in Downey, California filed for bankruptcy. BD
DOWNEY - When Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center opened its emergency room doors at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, it wasn't a moment too soon for pregnant mom Rosemary Olivarez.
Downey Mayor Mario Guerra said the 33-acre medical center, located next to Downey Studios, will bring high-paying jobs and hopefully more business to the area.
Kaiser Downey officially opened to patients at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, completing a massive transition from its old location in Bellflower to a new facility near the corner of Imperial Highway and Bellflower Boulevard.
Finley said two structures at the Bellflower site will be converted into medical offices and an outpatient surgery center. She said Kaiser is still working out plans for two other buildings, which are older and could eventually be demolished.
