CBS News take a look at what perks our representatives get, first of all a choice of 5 different plans, most of us get one today 74% of us,if the company offers insurance.  Members of Congress earn $174,000 a year while the median household today is $56,000 but premiums are about the same

They have an elite opening at Ward 172 at Walter Reed Hospital and outpatient care is free.  Even when they leave office, they get to keep the same benefits until they turn 65 for themselves and members of their family.  Big corporations don’t even do it up this well but we pay for all of it with tax dollars.  Should we all run for Congress for health insurance benefits? 

With all of this though, so many members know very little about Health IT or take much interest in much of it other than debating it on the floor.  I think this why laws are so difficult today too, no first hand experience and lack of participation.  As for us, as long we we remain constantly distracted with entertainment we end up not having a voice either.

As Congress put a "public option" on the table, they remain safe and secure in their own generous health care plan. As Sharyl Attkisson reports, the plan is subsidized by citizen's tax dollars.
