The layoffs are slated to be mostly in the management area and some at other facilities as well.  Revenue for the company is over 1 billion a year and most products are those sold to hospitals.  In addition some operations may arrive on the selling block as they analyze those that are not contributing profits to their bottom lines.  BD

San Diego hospital device maker CareFusion said Tuesday will lay off about 700 employees, including 180 locally, in a 5 percent reduction of its work force.

The move will make the company more competitive and bring its operating costs more in line with those of its market rivals, said David Schlotterbeck, CareFusion chairman and chief executive.

“We want to remain fiscally prudent in the current economic environment,” Schlotterbeck said.

Though CareFusion reported net income of $52 million for the quarter, that figure was down from $96 million in the same period last year.
