I reported on this a while back, but now Blue Cross folks can begin the rating process.  The system uses Zagat, the same service used to rate restaurants and will be available for those participants with the consumer driven health plans.  BD  image

WellPoint is offering its new doctor-rating service to members in the metropolitan Los Angeles, Connecticut and greater Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio, markets, it said Tuesday.

The Indianapolis-based health benefits giant is teaming with Zagat Survey -- famous for its restaurant guidebooks -- on the grading system, which allows patients to evaluate their physicians using the same methods used to rate eateries and travel destinations.

The difference is in the categories: trust, the doctor's ability to communicate with the patient, environment and availability -- how quickly the office responds to a request from the patient, for example.
