CCHIT, the certification for electronic medical records and standards has been in the news quite a bit lately, even with a company in Texas making the offer to certify records. As technology gets more complicated and certification of the algorithms used for records gets more complicated, so goes the processes too. We have been seeing many in key positions lately retiring or leaving and one question that comes to mind is how much stress and pressure goes along with these key positions? Mark Leavitt, M.D., is retiring as chair of the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology effective March 31, 2010. The commission's board has initiated a national search for a successor.
Leavitt has been with the organization since it launched in 2004. Since then, the Chicago-based not-for-profit commission has certified more than 200 electronic health records products as meeting its standards. Executive Director Alisa Ray will continue to head the commission's staff of 23
