You can visit the website for full details and apply and you can read below that August 13th is the date for a letter of inquiry to begin the process. The program is limited to public charities and universities. It will need to have a goal to be published and have a development time from start to finish of not more than a year.
McKesson has their own software so I don’t know if you get any extra brownie points if you consider theirs over others, but if this clearly demonstrates the rise and move for mobile healthcare and the desire to get things moving in that direction. You will also need a partnership with a community health center who will agree to participate and work with you, as someone has try it out. Good luck! BD
As part of the McKesson Foundation’s commitment to support innovative disease management interventions, we are proud to announce Mobilizing for Healthsm, the Foundation's new program area focused on building the evidence base for mobile health through research.
Mobile health, or what the industry is calling mHealth or m-health, is a term used for the practice of medical and public health, supported by mobile devices. The term is most commonly used in reference to using mobile communication devices, such as mobile phones and PDAs, for health services and information.*
The Mobilizing for Healthsm grant program will fund U.S. based pilot research projects and ongoing studies in need of additional funding focused on mobile phone-based interventions for low-income patients with chronic diseases, with an immediate interest in diabetes management over the next two years.
Applicants should:
- Be U.S. public charities or universities
- Have the goal of publication in peer-reviewed journals to further knowledge sharing in the field
- Have a study time frame from start to finish of no more than one year
- Propose interventions that have the potential to be highly scalable using existing technologies
- Address language and low health literacy barriers
- Address integration into a larger HIS infrastructure, such as health center EHRs
- Have an already-established relationship with a community health center that has agreed to partner in any proposed study
We will not consider funding for:
- Pilot studies requiring patients to use a certain brand of phones or studies requiring high-end phones
- The development of mobile phone-based applications for commercial purposes
- Studies focused on interventions that do not have the opportunity for low-cost, wide-spread adoption by community health centers
