I could not be more in agreement with this request. I have recently commented on how difficult it is for hospitals to budget and to have a "crystal ball" these days in any industry is certainly high at the top of anyone's list. They can give estimates, but how accurate with all the unknowns and variables in the world we live in today, fat chance on accuracy, as that will be the next question as to how and where the data was derived. To predict a "just in case" scenario today is insanity as one small turn of events can change the whole picture to go in many different directions. BD
Propose an accounting rule that has to do with litigation costs, and you're sure to get drug companies attention. Six major drugmakers protested a Financial Accounting Standards Board proposal to require companies to estimate their exposure to potential losses from ongoing litigation. Among other things, the proposal says that when a complaint doesn't seek a specific amount of damages, the companies should provide a best estimate of the maximum possible exposure to loss. Currently, companies only have to disclose estimated costs when they believe they'll probably lose a case, Dow Jones Newswires explains.
