SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCBS) -- State Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner Wednesday announced that six major private health insurance companies have agreed to waive co-pays and deductibles for H1N1 vaccinations.
While many Californians already have access to free immunizations against swine flu through clinics and HMO plans, subscribers with PPO plans would've had to pay as much as $50 to be vaccinated.
Poizner said Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield, CIGNA, HealthNet and UnitedHealth/Pacificare ultimately agreed that preventing vaccination from being cost prohibitive is an important step toward preventing a pandemic.
