I don’t know about you, but the last place I want to see a health insurance company show up is in iTunes, but it’s all about marketing.  Granted the incentives are nice to provide clean water for a day in India, but shoot why don’t they donate that money towards paying someone’s denied or complicated health claim right here in the US?  Money spent like this make the money pool smaller to pay health claims here.  What’s up with this?

The education process is fine if that works, but why are they sending the benefits to India?  Why do we need more charts and interaction on the health care plans of the political parties, isn’t this already covered sufficiently on the web, last time I looked it’s all over the place.  Again, invest the money to help pay for healthcare right here in the US is a better idea.  The underlying message this tells me is that there tends to be more of an interest in what goes on in India rather than right here where we have people dying who can’t get the care they need.  This is about as impressive as Aetna running their pill lottery to pay members to take their pills, can’t we have some realistic causes and business models here?  BD

One health insurance company is signing on to Facebook to educate its customers. Last week, Cigna launched a set of free online courses, games and podcasts about health issues. The new tools can be found on the popular social networking site as well as on iTunes and at http://itstimetofeelbetter.com.

Cigna is offering rewards designed to appeal to users' altruism: For every three questions a user answers correctly, Cigna is donating clean water for a day to one child in India. More than 25,000 days' worth of water have been donated since the program was launched.  Cigna also offers interactive charts about the health-care plans of the Republican and Democratic parties, and how they might affect individuals.
