This is just plain funny! I use and like both Apple and PC products myself. For my main desktop I have an IMAC that runs Boot Camp so I can go back and forth between operating systems and it functions very well, been using Boot Camp ever since it came out with no complaints. There are other solutions, but for what I do, I prefer the clean boot on either operating system, and I have virtuals on the Apple side where I can go into a virtual Vista or XP operating system if needed, many options and ways to go these days. The IMAC clearly has the aesthetics down pat better than any PC I have seen, although Sony and HP have made some attempts, Sony being one that is actually pretty nice with their integrated design.
Now when it comes down to portable units, there’s no Apple machine out there that fits my purposes, and actually PC notebooks don’t cut it either. I am an avid Tablet PC user and over the years I have grown way past the need of “flipping lids”, so again nothing there for me in that department as I used a Slate Tablet. I have a nice hardware button where I can go back and forth between touch screen and the pen digitizer and I used dictation a lot, thus I have much less reliance for a keyboard, but can always plug in a Bluetooth or USB board when I need one, and there are a few times when I do need it, especially when using a virtual Ubuntu Linux operating system that needs a keyboard as of now.
The Slate tablet has many advantages too, like in a coffee shop, I don’t need a table to set the unit down, for me that is big when the place is crowded and no tables are available, and obviously in a noisy big coffee shop I wouldn’t be dictating, but that’s where the alternative methods with the touch screen and digitizer come in very handy. The dual array microphones make it nice too for speech recognition in quiet places as I don’t have to deal with a headset too.
In today’s world, you can run almost any operating system you like on much of the newer hardware out there, so we have choices and again, when being mobile, “flipping lids” is totally a dead issue in my world, too much of a hassle when there are much better ways available to interact with a mobile computer. I have an entire section on Tablet PCs to include a lot of information relative to medical and other software applications that work well with tablets you can read here or go to the main page and take a look at the Tablet Label section for more information. The Apple / Microsoft ad war keeps escalating -- while Apple continues to insist that John Hodgman is the human representation of all PCs, Microsoft is taking its populist approach to the streets. Very specific streets, actually -- it's placing "I'm a PC" recording booths outside of Apple stores, like the one pictured here in Birmingham, England. The booth is staffed with three 'Softies who'll try to sell you on the latest in Windows tech while making nyah-nyah faces at Apple store patrons, and guests are invited to make a short video explaining why they, too, are PCs. Not to be outdone, Apple has pledged to send Justin Long to your house to charmingly condescend to you about his various abilities while still pretending to be your best friend.
