imageThe newly upgraded Sahara Tablet PC is available to order from the website.  The Sahara is a top notch “slate” tablet and now has the Intel Core 2 Duo processor.  A couple other items worth mentioning are the outdoor visible screen and the fact that the unit comes with 2 GB of DDR2 Ram, so in other words, the tablet is ready to go to work without having to add on additional features to have a functional tablet ready to go.  As before the unit can be ordered with Vista, XP, or Linux.  Also take notice of the 100 G SATA hard drive.  Choice of black image or white case.  The included stand makes it easy to use  the tablet in an upright position.  One nice feature that I enjoy is the ability to use the hardware button to switch back and forth between Touch and Digitizer.  When not entering data, the touch screen is very useful for viewing presentations or any other media on the tablet.  I use both methods of input.  Priced at $2395.00.

  • Intel® Centrino® Duo Mobile Technology
  • Intel® Core™ 2 Duo LV L7400
  • 2.0GB DDR2 5300 SDRAM
  • 100GB SATA Hard Disk Drive
  • Built-in Wireless a/b/g Networking
  • Bluetooth® 2.0+EDR
  • 12.1" TFT XGA Wide Angle View LCD Dual Mode Active Digitizer / Touch Screen Display
  • Sunlight Readable Display (standard)
  • Biometric Finger Print Reader
  • Windows Vista® Business, Windows® XP Tablet PC Edition, or open SUSE Linux
  • Vista Aero (Glass) Technology Capable

One other item worth mentioning is the audio functionality.  For physicians using dictation this is something you don’t want to overlook.  I have used both Nuance Dragon Dictation and Windows Vista Dictation with the unit and both worth very well.  When in a somewhat quiet area, it is nice not to have to use a headset.   The U. S. Military uses Dragon Dictation Speech Technologies quite extensively with their AHLTA electronic medical records program.

Some accessories you might think about adding are listed below…..

If you need a keyboard, there are also some nice options here too, both a blue tooth and USB keyboard.  Both fold up, so they can almost fit in your pocket.  $49.00 - $99.00imageimageimage

One additional accessory that is well worth looking at the the 10 hour battery that can be ordered.  This attaches flush on to the back of the unit and will give up to 10 hours of additional time, as the included battery is good for 2 – 4 hours. If you are a physician working all day long with charting, this is a real plus.  The unit has a stand which can be detached, so the unit can function as a docking station as well as an extended battery.  When carrying the unit around you would not want the stand on the back in order to have a flush unit attached to the back of the tablet.  Also, there are some indicator lights on how much power is left.  Priced at $369.00

image If you simply want to add another standard battery, that can be done too with adding a charging unit to keep a fresh supply of charged units available at all times.  $99.00 - $169.00

One other option is a simple port replicator.  This gives an additional VGA display connection and additional USB outlets.  imageimagePriced at $149.00.

This is the unit you can see every week on CSY-NY as well.  Here’s a couple links to some prior posts for some additional pictures and information.
