This is a good video from the Wall Street Journal that talks about this very same issue with everyone building the “better mousetrap”.  Specifically mentioned here are a couple of agencies and the FDA is one of them.  Now this is not easy and sometimes folks just grab programmers and start have software written without looking around out there to see if anyone is on the same track and maybe think about collaborating.  Duh!  Here’s a post from October of 2010 where I talked about the same thing in detail, and it’s fouling everything up.

Innovation Without Collaboration Is Fouling Up The US Healthcare IT System–We Need Both As We Can’t Stand on Innovation Alone

PART OF THE PROBLEM IS BENG “STUCK” ON THE WORD INNOVATION, WHERE WE HAVE NO LACK FOR GOSH SAKES, IT’S THE COLLABORATION THAT’S THE PROBLEM AND THE2 WORDS GET USED INTER-CHANGEABLY AT TIMES AND WE HAVE CONFUSED PEOPLE.

Instead are we perhaps in the mode of trying to find “Top Gun” programmers and developers?  Remember too someone has to use all this stuff and the companies and government agencies that collaborate both same time and money.  At the tech end of the White House we have some smart folks that see some of this in the server end and consolidation is taking place.  BD

On additional problem too was the lack of understanding of IT Infrastructure last year when the Senate would not fund Cloud services..augh!!

Please send IBM Watson in there to help these folks <grin>.  Watson could probably do a whole lot of education here in the process.  BD
