Cuckoo’s Nest Hospital to be torn down

The place where Nurse Ratched ruled and where Randle Patrick McMurphy lived. Actual patients were used as extras in this movie. In a 2004 tour a group of legislators found the cremated remains of 3600 mental patients in copper canisters from patients during the years of the late 1880s to mid 70s. Enough bad and strange memories and time for a new facility. The front part will remain as a museum to include history of mental heath care. BD

Oregon State Hospital, the mental institution where the 1975 movie “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” was filmed, is making way for a new complex. Most of the dilapidated, 125-year-old main building will be torn down and replaced starting this fall.
