Great interview from the Wall Street Journal, I guess when it comes time to go over the costs a patient gets to select to either find a method of payment if they can, or the other choice (no treatment) and we all know what the horrible results can be from there. The physicians are there to treat and help recovery and this puts them in a very awkward position to say the least. BD
Like oncologists around the country, Hufford is trying to figure out how to deal with a generation of cancer drugs that can cost $100,000 per patient. Doctors often purchase the drugs and give them via injection to patients in the office. The patients’ insurance plans (or the patients themselves) then reimburse the doctor for the drugs.
