U.S. News and World Reports has done a pretty good job answering many questions that relate to how hospitals are rates and there are many variables.  The one in particular that stands out that is addressed is imagethat there is no score for emergency service?  In essence I guess it would be difficult to compile a rating in this area; however, it’s where many of us might start out with a hospital visit.

As we all know it appears today we have the “haves” and “have nots” with hospitals, some doing well and others on the fringe of insolvency, and these issues can make a difference on how one would rate a hospital stay as well.  There’s no need to go into detail here as I think we all get the picture on this one.  Some other studies take this into play when creating their reports.

One area though where all can compete pretty equal though is preventable errors, nobody wants those by all means and the smallest and largest hospitals have the same urgency to address.  Good article to read and might help explain how some of these numbers are derived and what they mean to you as a consumer with a selection of a hospital for care.  BD
