PHR Vendors and Testers wanted for a Pilot program in Arizona and Utah - Medicare Contractor

Through the program, all Medicare billing information will be populated in to a Personal Health Record. Where does this leave Google Health and the HealthVault? Can they participate? The key to the whole program is to pre-populate the information so the consumer has very little to do as far as input. Noridian Administrative Services, LLC (NAS) is seeking to identify Personal Health Record (PHR) Vendors who would be candidates for a pilot project. Selected vendors will provide Fee-For-Service (FFS) Medicare beneficiaries in Arizona and Utah with access to a PHR that will be populated with Medicare fee-for-service claims and eligibility data.

The PHR will also allow for additional data from other sources such as pharmacies, laboratories, other providers, and the individual. It is anticipated that up to four PHR vendors will be selected. One goal of the project is to encourage the adoption of PHRs that are easy to use, longitudinal, consumer-centered, and that meet privacy and security safeguards. Another goal is to refine our understanding of how to gain widespread adoption of PHR usage by Medicare beneficiaries. A third goal is to be able to compare the different models of PHRs in terms of beneficiary preferences and perceptions of usefulness.

If you’re a resident of Arizona or Utah and receive Medicare benefits, you may be eligible to participate in a special pilot program January 2, 2009 through December 31, 2009. During the pilot, as your Medicare claims processor, we’ll automatically place your Medicare claims information directly into your PHR. We’ll even go back and add information from up to two years prior to enrollment. As a patient, you’ll have access to all your information with very little effort on your part.
