The electronic bio sensors could be in your pants soon.  The ink used will measure blood pressure and other vital signs.  This is called “intelligent textiles”.  The project is being funded by the US military which is the first area targeted for the “smart underwear”.

When a soldier is injured or sick, the sensors will go to work with detecting injury.  Eventually it will be able to dispense medications too.  If you were on the verge of having a stroke, the underwear could tell.  Amazing with all the other biometric devices that are coming out that we are now down the briefs.  Back in April of 2009 I wrote about another project that will use underwear to help stimulate muscles and prevent ulcers so there may be some additional jumping and jiving going on in your briefs too.  My question here is how many machine washings will they take?  In case you are ever in an accident, Mom says to be sure to be wearing clean underwear.

The underwear could even measure blood alcohol levels the video states.  The 2000 decade is certainly looking to be one of the sensors, no matter which way you turn.  BD

Jun 9 - Scientists at the University of California, San Diego have developed intelligent underwear that incorporates biosensors to monitor blood pressure and other vital signs. American soldiers will likely be the first to try them out. Rob Muir reports.
