For this new study, researchers examined the causes and effects of rheumatoid arthritis, as well as the possible benefits of medications. They found patients on DMARDs, such as methotrexate (Rheumatrex), for one year had an 18 percent reduction in risk of a heart attack and an 11 percent decrease in the risk of a stroke. Study authors say this research quantifies the risk reduction in thousands of patients.
