More news from Microsoft and partners on the HealthVault this week. About a month ago I posted on the new campaign aimed at consumers that is starting at the pharmacy level to promote e-Prescribing. Well that time is here as efforts are under way. I was at an practice this week and the office staff working at the office had no idea what so ever what a PHR was, and further more had no idea what the HealthVault or Google Health is all about, thus this is going to be one long haul, as that was an example of the staff at a physician’s office having no idea what so ever as to what is in the works. Wait until the first “informed patient” asks questions and offers to send medical records from their PHR, nothing more needs to be said here and we all heard the big news yesterday about Kaiser and Microsoft HealthVault now working together. Soon a Kaiser patient seen out of network will have the availability to provide copies of their medical records to the attending physician, and many Kaiser patients are already using the internal health records provided by Kaiser.

Also, free e-Prescribing has been offered for some time now through the National e- Prescribing Initiative. A permanent link is located on this page for any one to inquire for those who are not already set up with an EHR/EMR solution, and now the informed patients with the permission of their physician will be able to have a copy of their medications imported in to the HealthVault.

Here’s a search on this blog to do some reading up on e-Prescribing. BD

Patients of physicians using the free Allscripts ePrescribe software from Chicago-based Allscripts LLC will be able to have an electronic copy of their medication history, conditions and allergies to place in their HealthVault PHR.

Information technology and content vendors have announced more than 40 applications and devices designed to work with the HealthVault personal health records software and consumer health portal service of Microsoft Corp., Redmond, Wash.

Consumers also can use a variety of patient monitoring devices to monitor blood pressure, glucose levels, peak flow, oxygen levels, weight, body fat, body mass index, calories and distance traveled, and place this information in their PHR. HealthVault vendor partners for these devices include A&D, Home Diagnostics Inc., HoMedics, LifeScan, Microlife, Nonin, Omron, Polar and Tanita. image
