The story of the forgotten hospital in the prestigious Presidio area of San Francisco...closed in 1981...and most of the equipment and machinery is still all there...6 interconnected buildings still mostly in tact...at the time the facility was closed, the

On the south side of the Presidio, near Highway 1, is a tucked-away hospital called the Public Health Service Hospital.The 6-winged Hospital, also known as Building 1801, was built in the 1930s, replacing the old US Marine Hospital, which was built in 1875.The hospital shut down in 1983, with high-end hospital equipment still intact, and was later used as housing for foreign students, animal testing by the defunct Letterman Hospital, and the Defense Language Institute.
