Nice video showing some “inking” with Linux.  Get a Linux license from Microsoft sound out of the ordinary, yes it does, but in China Microsoft had partnered with Novell to

just that.  In healthcare, recently more software vendors have announced support for Linux as well, thus now it is possible to have a great tablet PC that will function with Suse Linux as the operating system.  There’s also Moonlight under development, which is the Linux version of Silverlight, where Microsoft has contributed code to help in the project.  Inking development is very much alive and well with Silverlight.  Another recent Microsoft project combines System Center Management from Microsoft to Linux and Unix Servers.

Back in February Misys announced their support for Open Source in healthcare.  At the end of last year, McKesson announced their support for Linux as well.  There are a few different flavors of Linux and Open Suse appears to be the main flavor that will be able to work with Microsoft and Windows products.  Myself I have not worked with Suse Linux but have run a virtual Ubuntu OS on the unit without issues, but there’s no support for inking in Ubuntu as there is for Suse, as shown in the video.

This is good news and breaks down one additional barrier in finding a good solid tablet to work with healthcare software solutions using Suse Linux.  BD
