Grocer finds medical records in Dumpster in Shreveport

This dumping of paper records still keeps happening. Perhaps we need a bigger move on the part of HIPAA for shredders?

A grocer discovered stacks of medical records and MRIs this morning in the Dumpster at his store, Tony’s Eastridge Grocery, in the 9300 block of Ellerbe Road in Shreveport, according to the major incident report.

The records are as recent as 2006 and belong to a local doctor’s office; none is named in the report.

Shreveport police are investigating the dumping, which violates HIPPA laws and incorrectly disposes of silver nitrate materials.
