Just a couple days ago I posted about UCI being an approved center, and they are also a trauma center and have the interventional neuroradiologist, available as well. Fountain Valley hospital was able to be accredited due to their use of a robot. The link below has a video showing how the robots work from UCLA. We might see more robots showing up for this purpose too.

UC Irvine Medical Center is Named a Designated Stroke Receiving Center – Orange County
The Interventional physicians are really the ones you want on hand too to use technology to accurately guide the catheters, etc. when having a procedure done. In a related story, UCI also was the lucky recipient of a $45 million dollar grant to study infectious diseases, the largest grant in the school’s history. The grant made possible from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (MIAID). BD
Six Orange County hospitals have become the first stroke-neurology receiving centers, a change that will send patients via ambulance to the places best equipped to care for them.
They are: Fountain Valley Regional Medical Center, Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, Mission Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital, UCI Medical Center and Western Medical Center in Santa Ana. Mission, UCI and Western Med are also the county’s three trauma centers.
The hospitals provide around-the-clock availability of stroke experts, including neurosurgeons and radiologists. The county already has cardiac receiving centers that offer open-heart surgery and treat patients suffering high-risk heart attacks.
